The Power of Infographics

Infographics are a new technique which webmasters use to build links and authority. Google seems to love it as it is a way of sharing content in a more appealing way to the users. This causes them to engage more which is a factor with Google.

What is an infographic?

I’m no Einstein but “Info-Graphic” what do you think it is? When I put it like that I bet you are face-palming? Well basically it is a graphic image with valuable information on there such as interesting statistics and graphs. Here is an example;

As you can see this is about a computer based business and they have focused on an interesting title. Look at the information and the images relating to it, it takes a lot of time and effort but it delivers the information to people in an attractive manner.

It is a proven fact that people who see a load of text are more likely to scan it whereas infographics are designed with images and likeable material to keep people interested.

So in summary an infographic attracts users to your website and the data on there will keep them on there which will reduce the bounce rate and show Google that the content on your site is appealing to your audience.

What SEO benefits will we gain?

link building new

This has to be the most common question I get asked when talking about infographics. They are a great way of building links, if somebody likes the look of it and it relates to them then they are going to use it on there website (natural link building). The way you get a link back is that the embed code will be embedded onto the page they have used your infographic.

It is not just building links where you can benefit from this method but also it can gain you a lot of traffic. People love images and if people love them then so does Google. You can post your infographic on image based sites such as Pinterest and Visual.ly aswell as your social media platforms.

Reddit is also a great way to drive a load of traffic just post the link into the infographic subreddit.

Tiered Link Building: Grey Hat or White Hat?

Tiered link building image. After the Penguin 2.0 update link building changed dramatically, webmasters started to structure their links a lot more. This is called tiered link building; this is when you have backlinks pointing to backlinks which pass on link juice through the tiers and eventually onto your money site.

This form of link building has created a debate for quite some time whether it is grey hat or a white hat technique, it totally depends on how you carry out the process. If you were to create everything manually with unique content then this surely is white hat. Whilst the other side of SEO aka the spammers will use black hat methods such as spinning articles and various submitting tools to speed up the process.

Tiered link building explained

So in the midst of these tiers is your money site (the main website you want to rank), it is important that your many money website is optimised onsite first. This is crucial in creating an effective link building campaign without this it will make the campaign a lot slower and difficult to rank.

Tier 1: The first tier is the only tier which links to your website so links, anchor text content all need to be relevant and unique. It will also need to be a high authority site which links to your website as these carry more power. It is recommended that the first tier should consist of high authoritative web 2.0 sites such as .wordpress, blogger, squidoo, hubpages etc as these need to gain page rank to pass onto your website. Again fresh content needs to fill out these to create high quality backlinks pointing to your money site.

Tier 2: This is the tier in which you link to your first tier so here we will start to use the link building techniques that we are all associated with today such as blog comments, wiki submissions, press releases and social bookmarks. Your second tier is crucial in building the page rank to your high authoritative tier 1 links and there for increasing link power to your main website. They are lower quality than tier 1 but more quantity.

Tier 3: This consists of all the other forms of backlinking which some people consider to be spam and others thing otherwise. These consist of directories, blog comments, articles etc these will be built in large quantities.

In summary tiered link building should have the desired effect to rank well. The tiers create a protective outer layer of your main money site keeping it safe if any penalisation does occur.

Link Building: The art of link building post Penguin

link building newThe most recent Penguin update had a great effect on many webmasters; it made us revise our approach to link building. As you may very well know the Penguin update changed many factors when it comes to link building such as, variety in anchor text and the types of links that should be generated. This article will explain important factors you should consider when link building this year.

Has there been any damage done?

This is crucial when starting a successful link building campaign as you can be causing more harm than good. If you are working with a website which has been worked on in the past, then research needs to be done. Check the links which have previously been built, are they relevant? Do they point to other high quality websites? Link building now needs to be all about quality so filtering out the poor quality links is a must. Another thing you should check is the anchor text profile; you can see what your anchor text profile should be like here.

Where should I put links?

This has been widely discussed between a lot of webmasters, links in sidebars and footers can now do more harm than good post Penguin. This is due to the keywords being filtered and increasing the density on your page. Your links should be placed naturally, in and around content relevant to your link.

Competitor Research

This is one of the most underrated techniques and with quality becoming more of a factor then research the backlinks of the people who are above you. It is clear that they are doing something that you are not and finding that out can be a huge difference in rankings! You can use free tools such as Open Site Explorer to do this.

Search Operators

Mastering this technique of Google’s search operators can be gold dust. This is an effective technique of filtering the golden nugget websites to link to. The reason behind this is that you have more control over the search results, which is more relevant and better quality.

Engaging and interaction

When building links these two can add more value to the link, social networking and forums are increasing in value to Google as they see you are socially active and engaging with your target audience.

If you follow these brief guidelines, you should have no problem in a successful link building campaign.
